This write-up is long overdue, but with Complex dropping their “50 Best Neptunes Beats” list yesterday (Click the photo above to view their picks), it was about time I finally get what I have to say out!!
Ask me about fourth grade and all I can say is “Grindin’“, that beat literally had the whole school banging on their desks. In elementary I had no preference — I listened to whatever the grown-ups played— but The Neptunes were my ears introduction to hip-hop.
Moving along to 2001, Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams added Shay Haley to the mix and birthed N*E*R*D. I have every album, love every album and frequently listen to every album. When Kanye West‘s Glow In The Dark tour came to Charlotte, I was there front row center (Lupe Fiasco, Rihanna and Chris Brown were guests too!).
N.E.R.D. have so many fuckin’ good songs, I don’t even have a favorite. That’s Quality & Quantity, They got that shit on LOCK!

I could talk forever, but onto what you’re really here for… The Neptunes have worked with almost every artist in pop rock and urban music and their work continues to expand, which is why CoryTownes X CSNW decided to craft it into a series called The Other Side Of The Planet that drops every other week. If you’re unfamiliar with their sound, this is the perfect way to start that journey and If you’re a fan you’ll love every bit of this. Below is one of my favorite beats by The Neptunes that oddly didn’t make its way onto Complex’s list. Enjoy!
